Nykysodissa onkin hyvin pitkälti kyse eri ryhmien vakuuttamisesta yleisesti hyväksytyin ja aikaan sopivin sanankääntein, sekä sodan markkinoinnista strategisen kommunikaation keinoin. Tarinat terrorismin voittamisesta, humaanista sodasta, ihmisoikeuksien ja tehokkaan hallinnon juurruttamisesta ja sodan voittamisesta Afganistanissa kuulostavat kuitenkin jo epäuskottavilta ja kymmenen vuoden sodankäynnin jälkeen lähinnä falskeilta. Lopulta Afganistanissa onkin enää kysymys siitä, miten länsi pääsisi pois tilanteesta menettämättä kasvojaan aivan totaalisesti.
