Advisory Council

In its meeting of 25 May 2007, the Chancellery Committee of the Parliament appointed the following Members of Parliament as members of the Advisory Council of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs: Seppo Kääriäinen, Pertti Salolainen, Jutta Urpilainen, Pentti Tiusanen, Ville Niinistö, Christina Gestrin, Päivi Räsänen and Timo Soini (currently Member of the European Parliament).

In addition to the aforementioned, the Chancellery Committee also appointed twelve other members from the Institute’s central affiliates. They are Master of Theology Pauliina Parhiala, Under-Secretary of State Martti Hetemäki, CEO Lea Kauppi, Vice CEO Jukka Koivisto, Academy Professor Martti Koskenniemi, Editor-in-Chief Lauri Kontro, Director Gunvor Kronman, President Mikko Mäenpää, [vuorineuvos] Risto Rinne, Major General Pertti Salminen, CEO Suvi-Anne Siimes and Secretary of State Pertti Torstila.

The Advisory Council held its first meeting on 20 June 2007, electing Seppo Kääriäinen as its chair and Jutta Urpilainen as vice-chair. The Council’s duties include monitoring the Institute’s operations and liaising with relevant FIIA stakeholders. In addition, the Advisory Council monitors the societal impact of the Institute’s activities. The Council serves a four-year term of office, which commenced on 1 June 2007.
